VIA Vinyl Audio Driver 6.70b

Codecs supported: This driver supports all VIA southbridges with integrated sound plus several audio codecs as below.
DOS sound: This driver supports DOS sound for VIA VT82C686A/VT82C686B/VT8231 southbridges only.

Release history: This combination driver was first published on 24 June 2002. Prior to 24 June 2002, there was driver 74mu170a for VT8233/VT8233A/VT8233C and driver 68MU220b for VT686A, 686B & VT8321. The "combo" driver combined those two drivers into the one package and added support for the (at the time) new VT8235 southbridge. Further improvements have been made in subsequent releases, including adding support for more codecs and the driver package is now called Vinyl_AudioCodec.

Special note: VIA advises that where possible, users should install onboard sound drivers provided by their motherboard manufacturer in preference to the audio drivers below.

The advantages of High Definition Audio specification before AC 97 include: full support for new audio formats, a high frequency bandwidth, support for connecting audio devices, under Technology Plug and Play, more accurate speech recognition and input. Realtek has been always leading in audio drivers/codes and has come up with high definition dirvers as well. The Realtek High Definition Audio Driver will provide you with listening capabilities for multichannel sound such as DTS, Dolby and Surround. Now you can experience the movie theater like audio experience inside your room/home. You must have visited theaters equipped with latest sound systems and must have enjoyed great movies that have there sound tracks on DTS, Dolby, Surround Sound.
With a High Definition Audio Driver you can recreate the same effect using your PC and speaker systems.

The ALC882 series 7.1+2 Channel High Definition Audio codecs with UAA (Universal Audio Architecture), featuring five 24-bit stereo DACs and three 20-bit stereo ADCs, are designed for high performance multimedia PC systems. The ALC882 series incorporates proprietary converter technology to achieve over 100dB Signal-to-Noise ratio playback quality; easily meeting PC2001 requirements and also bringing PC sound quality closer to consumer electronic devices.
The ALC882 series provide 10 channels of DAC that simultaneously support 7.1 sound playback, plus 2 channels of independent stereo sound output (multiple streaming) through the Front-Out-Left and Front-Out-Right channels. Flexible mixing, mute, and fine gain control functions provide a complete integrated audio solution for next generation multimedia PCs.

VIA AC97 audio driver v7.0.0b

This download contains the latest audio drivers, software and utilities for the Via AC97 audio controllers. It can be applied to the Via motherboards listed below where onboard sound is used (onboard means built into the motherboard instead of a separate card). If you are using a separate sound card, you do not need the AC97 driver. For separate cards, you should download the appropriate driver from the card manufacturer's site.

This package includes the following drivers:
  • VIA AC97 codec incorporated into VT82C686A/B South Bridges
  • VIA AC97 codecs incorporated into VT8233, VT8233A, VT8233C, VT8235 and VT8237/R South Bridges
  • VIA Vinyl audio codecs: VT1612A VT1613 VT1616 VT1617 VT1618
  • VIA AC97 codec incorporated into VT8231 South Bridge
  • VIA AC97 codec incorporated into VT8251 South Bridge
Special note: VIA advises that where possible, users should install onboard sound drivers provided by their motherboard manufacturer in preference to these audio drivers. This is because of the ID process in the Microsoft certification guidelines. Microsoft require a four part ID for PnP device drivers. If VIA have not received the appropriate ID from motherboard manufacturers, then the drivers from this package will use the generic ID instead. In some instances users may receive an error message or may even not be able to install the drivers. If this occurs, please contact your motherboard manufacturer for updated AC97 drivers.

AC'97 Rev 2.3 Audio CODEC

Compatible with ALC-101/201/202/203/250/650/655/658/850 chipsets

AC'97 Rev 2.3 Audio CODEC

General Description

Featuring four 16-bit two-channel DACs and a stereo 16-bit ADC, the ALC850 is an AC\'97 Rev 2.3 compatible multi-channel audio CODEC designed for PC multimedia systems. The ALC850 incorporates proprietary converter technology and fully meets performance requirements for PC99/2001 systems.

Four pairs of stereo outputs, with 5-bit volume control and multiple stereo and mono inputs, along with flexible mixing, and gain and mute functions, provide a complete integrated audio solution for PCs. The digital interface circuitry of the ALC850 operates from a low-power consumption 3.3V power supply.

Two integrated 50mW/20ohm headphone audio amplifiers provide high-quality personal audio listening. Utilizing Universal Audio Jack technology, Line-In and Mic-In can also serve as Headphone-Out with an amplifier advantage.

The ALC850 integrates an on-board dual PLL clock generator (14.318MHz and 24.576MHz), saving the cost of a 24.576MHz crystal. A PCBEEP generator is built-in and can be programmed by the BIOS to generate POST beeps without a buzzer. S/PDIF input and output functions are also supported, offering easy connection of PCs to consumer electronic products such as AC3 decoders/speakers, and mini disk devices.

The ALC850 supports host/soft audio from Intel ICHx chipsets, as well as audio controller-based VIA/SiS/ALi/AMD/nVIDIA/ATI chipsets. Bundled Windows series (98/ME/NT/2000/XP) and Linux drivers, EAX/Direct Sound 3D/I3DL2/A3D compatible sound effect utilities (supporting Karaoke, 26 types of environment sound emulation, 10-band equalizer), HRTF 3D positional audio, and Sensaura 3D (optional), providing an excellent entertainment package and game experience for PC users. In addition, the ALC850 is embedded with an impedance sensing capability to detect when a device has been connected to input or output jacks.
